Chapter Fifteen

ELIZABETH AWOKE THE NEXT MORNING TO THE SAME meditations that had at length closed her eyes, her astonishment no less overwhelming than it had been the evening before. Though it was gratifying to have inspired so strong an affection, Darcy’s shameless avowal of what he had done with respect to Jane, and his unpardonable evasion of acknowledging the crimes Mr. Wickham had accused him of, stole away any chance that she could ever consent to be his. Her doubts, however, continued to linger, and she decided to indulge herself in fresh air and exercise, hoping it might clear away the image of Darcy’s manhood from her mind. It disturbed her greatly that she should now find her thoughts so frequently reflecting on the handsomeness of it. Even her sleep was haunted, for she had woken more than once in the night, experiencing that sensation of soaring without having even touched herself. That this should have transpired while she dreamed that she had taken the entirety of Darcy’s manhood into her mouth was, to Elizabeth, a disgrace of the highest order, as would be the fact that she had very much enjoyed it. The particulars continued to return to her as, all throughout breakfast, she kept envisioning herself on her knees before him, his manhood having reached to such depths in her mouth that the dark curls at the base tickled her nose. The fact that she seemed to have worshipped the object astonished her. Elizabeth, feeling its phantom presence in her throat, could barely manage to swallow a bite of her breakfast, necessitating Charlotte to inquire if she was unwell and, if such were the case, whether she wished to cut short her stay and return home to Hertfordshire. Elizabeth assured her that all was as it should be and she had merely been the victim of a restless sleep, the reply seeming to dishearten her friend rather than cheer her.

Not long after setting out on her walk, Elizabeth glimpsed a gentleman moving her way. Fearful of it being either of Lady Catherine’s nephews, she began to retreat. The person who advanced was near enough to have seen her, however, and stepped forward. On seeing that it was Darcy, Elizabeth felt her face color and refused to meet his eye. She wondered if he could see into her mind and know the nature of her imaginings—see the length of himself filling her mouth, which he would have undoubtedly perceived as the greatest victory. Perhaps he already believed her to have taken part in such activities with Mr. Wickham, if not, indeed, Colonel Fitzwilliam, who might have alerted his cousin with much augmentation as to the manner of depravity engaged in by her on the previous day. Were anyone to discover the stains on her gown, her fate would most assuredly have been sealed.

Elizabeth found her gaze drawn repeatedly to Darcy’s breeches, which continued to indicate his interest, and she knew not whether to curse him or drop to her knees before him.
